The Samsung Galaxy Note also debuts at IFA but it can't make up its mind - is it a tablet or a phone? Both - it has a 5.3" screen but also full telephony features. And we've seen people use a 5" Dell Streak as a phone, so it's really up to you if you use the Note as a phone or as a tablet.
If the Galaxy S2 wasn't substantial enough
for you in size, the Samsung Galaxy Note will make up for this. The
display screen measures 5.3 inches, boasts eye-popping colour, yet the
phone is still unbelievably lightweight. And it's not just the outside
that's in the elite class - internally, everything is run by a powerful
1.4GHz dual-core processor. Not only is it an Android smartphone, but
the Galaxy Note also works like a tablet, making it a phone/tablet
hybrid that spans both arenas.
The Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone is truly classy, the Rolls Royce of
the phone world - every little detail has been well-thought out, from
the camera that sits flush to the casing, to the slight curve of the
shell. The slim design measures just 9.65mm and the Galaxy Note is super
light, at 178g, ensuring its portability. The stylus (called an S pen)
is cleverly tucked into the bottom panel, ready and waiting to be
whipped out when inspiration takes you or for when you need to write
down notes.
The Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 mobile phone display screen is 5.3 inches,
bigger than most other mobile phones, and gives it the title of a "mini
tablet". The resolution of the High Definition AMOLED touchscreen is
1280 x 800 pixels, with 16M colours display, and the picture is probably
the sharpest, most crisp colour you have seen to date on a mobile
phone. It's hard to convey just how clear and vibrant the screen
resolution is, but it's the first thing that you will notice when you
use the phone. In addition to this, the Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone
has a multi-touch input method called Gyroscope, which makes for a
speedy response and navigation.
The large screen allows for larger keys than other phones, which means
greater accuracy and ease of typing. Or, just use the S Pen instead of
the keyboard if preferred. If you're worried about your handwriting, the
Galaxy Note comes with handwriting and character recognition.
The 8 megapixel LED flash camera is located on the back of the phone,
and gives outstanding photo quality. Other features include geo-tagging,
face detection, smile detection, autofocus and full High Definition for
recording videos. Videos can also be taken whilst on the move, due to
the clever image stabilisation feature. If you would like to conduct
video calls, there's also a 2 megapixel camera on the front of the phone
for video call use.
The Galaxy Note's stylus - called an S Pen - can be used to make
sketches, take notes, annotate pictures, and it can also be used to crop
images or drawings, very simply and quickly. This is done via the
ability to tap and hold down to capture an instant screenshot, which
immediately opens up in an image editor. From here you can annotate the
image, or doodle on it, before easily sending on these jottings or notes
to friends, or to work colleagues.
Some apps that are designed for use with the S Pen include Hello Crayon,
Hello Color Pencil and Hello Chalk - great for kids and adults alike,
these apps enable you to make colourful doodles.
Another favourite feature is the quick note function, which pulls up a
sticky-size memo pad from any screen, by using the S Pen.
There are many handy applications on the Samsung Galaxy Note to keep you
connected to friends or family, or for work purposes. To name a few
apps: Google Search, Gmail, Gtalk, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Picasa,
YouTube and more.
Samsung has also launched a suite of apps, called S Choice apps,
specifically for the Galaxy Note. Designed to work in conjunction with
the S Pen, some of the apps are: Soonr, OmniSketch, Zen Brush,
ComicBook!, and iAnnotate PDF. To download them to your Galaxy Note
smartphone, visit the Samsung Apps store from your Galaxy Note phone.
The Samsung Galaxy Note has a built-in RDS system, enabling you to play
MP4/DivX/XviD/WMV/H.264/H.263 video players, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/AC3/FLAC
audio player plus Stereo FM radio.
The Note's speaker is loud, or you can use the 3.5mm headphone jack if preferred.
The Samsung Galaxy Note N700 is super speedy and leaves other phones
trailing far behind. This is due to the 1.4GHz dual core processor that
outpaces most other mobile phone processors.
The Galaxy Note android phone comes installed with version 2.3 of the
mobile operating system from Google, which is called Gingerbread, and is
powered with 1GB RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy Note mobile phone comes with 16GB of internal
storage, and this can be expanded up to 32GB with a micro SD card.
You can also connect the phone up to a mass-storage device.
You might think that with a huge screen to power and high CPU, the
battery would dwindle quickly. Not so! The 2500mAh battery is powerful
enough to keep the device running for hours, even if watching videos.
